WHAT IS LIFE COACHING?

Coaching is about helping people to bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.  It is focused on the present and the future, and on identifying the boundless possibilities for one’s life.  When you are accountable to someone else, you can almost always begin to achieve goals that you never thought possible.  

You might be feeling that life is going quite well for you, but there are just a few goals that you can never quite get around to, and are still out of reach.  A coach can help you more clearly determine what you most want, as well as identify the barriers and the solutions that can help you overcome them.  A Life Coach can help you streamline your plan of change and strategize the most effective ways of getting you to where you want to be.

COACHING IS NOT PSYCHOTHERAPY

It is important to note that coaching is not psychotherapy.  Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being.  It is not only focused on the present and the future, but the past as well.

Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, psychotherapy is defined as treating, by means of psychotherapy technique, delivered through a therapeutic relationship, an individual’s serious disorder of thought, cognition, mood, emotional regulation, perception or memory that may seriously impair the individual’s judgment, insight, behaviour, communication or social functioning.
